Captain Jack Sparrow is searching for his ship the Black Pearl which he lost to a mutiny, arriving at Port Royal on a sinking ship he soon finds himself in trouble as he battles with the local blacksmiths apprentice Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), saves the governers daughter from drowning and gets put under arrest and ends up in jail.
Captain Barbossa is the leader of the mutiny, he and his crew are looking for a lost piece of treasure which they need in order to lift a curse bestowed on them after stealing some Aztec Gold. Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) has the piece of Gold they search for and somehow it seems to be calling to the Black Pearl and its crew. They set sail for Port Royal and when they arrive the Pirates set about plundering what they can and kidnapping Elizabeth.
Will Turner has trained for many years at the art of sword play, he has a deep hatred of Pirates and yet somehow finds himself joining forces with Sparrow, one in pursuit of the Girl he loves the other in pursuit of his beloved ship.
Some hilarious scenes now follow as the duo set course in search of Barbossa and the Black Pearl, with the Navy hot on their heals. Heading towards the films climax we see Barbossa and Sparrow going head to head and I defy anyone not to be amazed at some of the special effects used in this part of the movie.

Conclusion
Curse of the Caribbean is one of the most hilarious films I have seen in a long time, the acting is first class, especially Johnny Depp who shines throughout in his role as Capt'n Jack Sparrow. Other performances of note are Geoffrey Rush as the villian and Jonathan Pryce as Commadore Norrington (who I believe I first saw in 'This Life' on TV some years back).
The special effects used in this film are superb and very well implimented, I think it would have been fairly easy to have over done them and yet I feel they hit the correct mix perfectly.
A fantastic, swashbuckling adventure with something for everyone, my children of 3 and 6 have seen it although both hid behind cushions during certain scenes. However they do particularly enjoy ghostly, ghouly and similar type films so this may not be the perfect family film if your children are not into this genre.
